Earl Sweatshirt, "Chum"

I wish there was more close-up footage of a frog's eye blinking in Earl Sweatshirt's new video. But there is some of that and it is very good! I think I would like to watch a full 3:10-long video of a frog's eye blinking to a soundtrack of Earl reciting his intricate tongue-twister rhymes about his life. As emotionally moving and in-depth as they are astounding from a technical perspective. "Mama often was offering peace offerings…" he says, and your jaw drops at how the simple transposition of those two words, "often" and "was," can open the door for a line so beautiful.

I still don't get what everybody's fascination is with these half-asleep rappers.

Danzig! (#5,318)

Leon (#6,596)

@Reginal T. Squirge Not even just the rhyme "nothing was fucking awesome trying to make it from the bottom his sins feeling as hard as Vince Carter's knee cartilage is, " but the fucking delivery. Odd Future got over-talked about and WAAAAY over-analyzed, but Earl's flow is really pretty remarkable, and this beat is firey.

Danzig! (#5,318)

@Leon Saint-Jean yeah Tyler got all the buzz in Earl's absence (before "Goblin" turned out to be a dud, that video aside) but the broad consensus was that Earl was the most skilled of the crew, not counting Frank Ocean

I just can't get into it. Every rap sounds the same because it's all so snoozy. And it's a bunch of rhymey words jumbled together for no real reason. A lot like Eminem and I never liked him either.

Cool video, an amazing intelligent flow. I am not a fan of most current rap or current rap culture, but Earl Sweatshirt gives me hope for music.
