A Brief Survey of the High Line Park

A statistical analysis of 100 people in order this afternoon on the High Line.

Rod Townsend is the purveyor of an online magazine for gays, so he would know.

Fake! There's no way the gay/straight ratio is this low. Only 8% of the people in a chi-chi park in Chelsea that was partially funded by Diane von Furstenberg?

Men who rebuffed Rod's advances were deemed straight.

What intrigues me though is the suggestion that Rod cannot perceive ethnicity and sexual orientation simultaneously. Apparently either his gaydar is enabled or his racial profiler is enabled, but not both. I like to imagine that there is some primal gay instinct at work here… like, right now gay caveman's just cruising for anonymous sex, but afterward he's most definitely not letting the Other spend the night.

In my head, Hillary Clinton is saying this.

Umm, none of this adds up…

Half of those "straight" marks are not straight at all.

Your legal pad. You're using it wrong.

I'm unconvinced. There's no annotation regarding dogs.

Dogs are not allowed in the High Line Park, and there is not a category on the legal pad for "entitled asshole who refuses to read signs."

HiredGoons (#603)

I see Gay, Straight but I don't see European…

I miss Blair sometimes.

As a non-New Yorker, this has little value to me without some sort of hipster count.

Or (and here I show that I live in flyover country) are you all hipsters now?

Tuna Surprise (#573)

The Highline is as close to a Hipster-Free Zone as you'll find in NYC (outside an Urban Outfitters).

It's mostly tourists (of the Euro and midwestern variety) and gays.

I thought they canned all of the census-takers?

The tally: it does not compute.

The data were skewed by introduction of creepy guy taking notes.

Did this sample include folks in the windows of the Standard?
