It's not irony's fault that it sells; that it was, is, and will remain, deployed wisely, a vital rhetorical weapon; and that, with such understanding, it became co-opted and marketed until it became a tiresome device. Commerce will do that to anything that works.
Ironically, when it retreats into the background, we'll long for its return, even as we wink at its flaws.
