What Whisper Is

If you have been all, "What is Whisper?" this will help. If you are suddenly like, "Wait, Whisper, what?" don't worry, you're probably going to die before it is anything you ever need to know about.

I'm just going to leave this here. It is Helmutt, mascot of the Higgins Armory Museum, which recently merged with the Worcester (MA) Art Museum.

"'I asked him, "Do you want to keep writing headlines? Or do you want to come over here and change the world?"' Heyward says.": Facepalm moment of the day so far.

I'm not just snarking. A couple of years ago, I spent six months in Silicon Valley, and I heard so much of this "change the world" blather that it became like a repetitive-motion injury to the mind. No, your PostSecret plus Reddit image macros wrapped up as a phone app isn't going to change the world in any way a sensible person would find worth mentioning. It may make you a pile of money, but you know, LOLcats made Ben Huh a pile of money too.

By the way, Whisperers reveling in their privacy would be prudent to note that "advertisements on Whisper…will likely happen 'at some point.'" You may remain formally anonymous, but rest assured, you'll be data-mined down to the finest detail.

@Ralph Haygood There should be a blog just calling out everyone – in interviews, in essays, in TED talks, on TV and in movies who says change the world in this context – maybe it could be sponsored/launched by a charity that really is trying to change the world. ("Want to really change the world?," etc.) Or this could be an ad campaign, using clips. Anything to make it stop, basically.

I did an app review of Whisper recently which also included examples of Whisper being used to cyber-bully. Read it on my blog at
