Argument Russian

"A former schoolteacher killed his friend after a drunken argument over which is superior, poetry or prose, investigators in the Sverdlovsk region said on Wednesday." Also: "The killing came four months after an argument over the theories of 18th century German philosopher Immanuel Kant ended in a man being shot in a grocery store in southern Russia."

I see Zach Galifanakas as the angry poetry admiring stabber and Jack Nicholson as the 67 year old prose admiring victim in the HBO drama film.

We poets have finally picked up in the Tragically Hip's song "Poets".

At last we ARE antisocial enough.

Also, this is reminiscent of the denouement of Bullets over Broadway.

I recall a similar tiff involving Nastasya Filippovna in Pskov, concerning the relative supremacy of Dostoyevsky vs. Tolstoy.

Mme. Filippovna, ever the mendacious ironist, had taken the part of Tolstoy. Of course, there was a wager involved; the winner would be entitled to bludgeon the other with an axe. However, once my positions were established and my triumph became manifest, Nastasya stole the last laugh by hurling herself beneath a passing train.

She was quite the minx. Or was it Minsk?
