What Did You Dream About Last Night?

I asked strangers around Manhattan and Philadelphia about their most recent dreams.

Cherrie: A test, because I had a test last week.

Jose: I remember my dreams, but in the morning, not right now.

Dominic: (Milo, Luca and their dog Ruby also pictured)
It’s so loud around here that I never get to sleep more than 40 minutes at a time. I don’t think they’re going to tell you anything, they don’t have enough words.

Adam: New York, being in Manhattan.
Brian: Taylor Swift.

Crystal: I very rarely have dreams. I can’t remember the last time I had a dream actually, I guess I’m a boring sleeper.

Charity: The Little Mermaid.

Adrienne: Sometimes they’re vivid and sometimes I don’t remember them at all.
Chanel: It’s like a blur!

Robert: I didn’t dream.

Mike: Senior prom.
Brad: I think I was at the Olympics.

Aaron: I used to have recurring dreams mainly about going to high school.
Uri: I think I had some [recurring dreams] in high school, mainly about physically harming teachers that I didn’t like.

Ramon: Food, maybe?

Laura: I have this recurring dream where I’m lost in a hotel and I’ve got dogs with me, because I’m a dog walker, and then I go in and there’s this guy and he flirts with me and I get distracted and I realize that I don’t know where the dogs are. I go to look for the dogs and I get lost in a parking garage. When I come back the dogs are there but then I let them inside to go see what happened to this guy and my biggest dog pees all over the floor.

Brian: I don’t remember.

Ellen: Oh I had a fantastic one, I was in the ocean, it was fabulous actually. It was probably two nights ago or something.
Karen: I can’t remember any, really. I forget them immediately.

Larry: I dreamed about you.

I dreamed I'm staying in a hotel somewhere and I go out. Then when I try to get back to my room, the elevator goes to the wrong floor. But it won't take me back down to try again, so I take the stairs. Which, of course, don't lead back down to the elevators, they go somewhere else that I don't recognize. You get the idea — the more I try, the further away I get. I think maybe I could interest Kafka in the idea. But he's dead, of course.

I dreamed about my older brother, who died in 2009. When I woke up, I had a split second of thinking, " This will make me sad." But then I realized I felt great, because it was wonderful to see him again.

The story ideas you come up with never work out the way you hope, do they?

Ah, the trials of learning how to be a reporter.

@Mr. B I actually think this sweet little non-story should be more present in our universe. Because isn't this how reality really is? It's not all NSA leaks and best bikini bods (I'm covering the spectrum). I kinda like just checking in on New Yorkers, which is what this style of piece on the Awl has always done.

FWIW my last dream was about how I'm tired all the time. I got a shot of B12, but it was just my own blood somehow fortified and concentrated into superblood. I don't know if it made me feel any better.

@sunnyciegos You see, if she had just asked us the results would have been so much better than the one good answer and the dozen I-don't-remembers she got.

I'm not trying to sound snotty, even though that's how it's coming out. Anyway, yesterday morning my girlfriend was up before me but then rousted me two minutes later to kill a giant bug in the bathroom. In that short space, I had a dream that seemed to span several weeks and took place at some gigantic building under construction. I remember having to trudge along the entire length of it and stepping in and over those huge ridges and trenches of mud churned up by construction vehicles' tires.

Who else was playing "New York or Philadelphia" based on the photos? Even if his hat didn't say PENN LAW, I could tell that was Rittenhouse Square.

christopher hart – In the world every person want to see a Dream and want to covert in realty, For few peoples some time it becomes true and some time live like a Dream Only.

THIS is the dream.

For what it's worth, mine was about Dean Stockwell inviting me to do karaoke.
