":(" indeed.

I had to look it up, but yes, it is sad.

We had a kid last night who had a REALLY AMAZING ELABORATE AND BEAUTIFUL BIRD COSTUME and I was like "you're amazing little bird!" he got really huffy and said "I'm not a bird, I'm a SNOW OWL." He was maybe six? I heard from a neighbor who had seen him that he offered this response even when identified as an owl. Kid needs to learn about cheefulness, and nesting categories!

@jfruh "Nesting categories": ISWYDT

@jfruh I went to school in a homemade snow leopard costume when I was nine, and I can vividly remember my fury when my long-term nemesis said, "What are you, some kind of cat?"

This is not "sad." Sad is when your chubby kid dresses as Spiderman and people ask if he's "Spiderman who defeated Goblin by eating him." Seems there are potential multiple "wrongs" here but most of all is Smith who should know better than to believe adults are going to recognize a kid in a suit as a literary figure. FURTHER, what should make everyone really ":(" is the fact that Smith, a professional cynic, would try and make us think he'd be surprised by this reaction. :p

That's nothing. In '96 my friend dressed as Bill Clinton and I as Dole. He got twice as much candy as I did and some people tried to physically assault me. Remember, I was a child.

Is that like some sort of mythological chicken?

stuffisthings (#1,352)

@CaptBackslap No, he's the Republican candidate for President of the United States.

If Ben smith weren't such a prick, I'd probably be sad but as it is, :-( is probably the best he'll get.
