The Carroll Gardens Homeless Shelter Crisis Standoff, Day 12

It has been really fun to watch reporter Andrew Rice follow the story of a homeless shelter being proposed in Carroll Gardens. It is basically his Silent Spring.

It bears repeating: 170 men shelter with 10 apartments. That's 17 men per. WTF??

Tuna Surprise (#573)

But the 10 units = 25,000 square feet. That's about 150 square feet per person.

@Tuna Surprise Something's very odd about this. Why not 85 apartments, then? Given that this was rushed into play under some sort of vague "emergency" powers, I think someone's playing loose with the numbers. And not to be all NIMBY, but that's an extraordinarily large number of people for the neighborhood to absorb.

I would be interested to know where "reforming obviously corrupt city shelter system" falls on the list of upcoming Mayoral election talking points.

@camelface SERIOUSLY. It's item number 452.
