Lana Del Ray, "Carmen"

Lana Del Ray released a new video this weekend. What do you think of it? Tell us in the comments all over the internet with such inflamed vitriol and hyperbole that no one of us will ever be able to consider this person's music separate from the controversy that surrounds her image and authenticity or lack thereof again.

Well at least she's trying something that's stylistically different from the previous releases.

@KenWheaton : I read that as "statistically different" and figured it was a spot-on critique of a Melodic Audible Product ™ created by inscrutable machinery and marketing dudes.

The song is …. sort of good? I guess? I kind of like her stuff, but also it seems so transparently "crafted" but also not transparently crafted enough. It's like the uncanny valley of pop.

@collier Damn. I like your reading of my comment better than my comment.

Screen Name (#2,416)

I'll never forget the disappointment I felt upon learning that Lana Del Ray is a singer and not the name of a racehorse.

The video is decent, in a David-Lynchian sort of way, if you leave the sound off. I find her delivery very boring.

Multiphasic (#411)

Whoa. She's like the Lena Dunham of pop music.

@Multiphasic Yes, I was just thinking the other day that if Lana Del Rey ever has a cameo on Girls, the entire internet will go down in flame(war)s.

Can we please stop talking about this "singer" and her "music"? Or at least balance it with an article about Beth Ditto? Because Lana Del Rey is the exact opposite of Beth Ditto.

Needs more lip bloat.
