“If a pineapple were funnier, I would have written a pineapple in the first place"

“This was done by somebody who was barely literate."
Daniel Pinkwater, genius towering super-hero of literature, is profoundly pissed at the mangling of his work that then caused the uproar over the absurd and bizarre NYS reading exam test question about the pineapple in the race with the hare.

@Mr. B You're not supposed to. Just laugh along.

@Pop Socket This is what I get for trying to be meta.

From the Times article, "Pearson, a test preparation company, has a $32 million contract with the state to make the exams more rigorous."

How many writers did they hire with that much money?

P.J. Morse (#232,627)

@SkinnyNerd I'm thinking the admins skimmed as much as they could (or used it to save dying branches of their empire) and hired writers who were willing to work for peanuts.

SRA cards.
Thankfully they weren't tests. Unfortunately we had to plow through this kind of crap everyday.

@Operalala SRA cards. Is everything or is everything not like SRA cards. Today I'm saying not.

Pop Socket (#187)

@dntsqzthchrmn I lost an entire year of elementary school doing nothing but SRA cards.

@Pop Socket Half the time they were better than what was going on the classroom. The real problem, though, was that I came to imagine a staggering capacity for busy work meant anything at all.

What does it mean "the answer key was embedded within the test?"

This is an inspiring lesson. The next time I write "total nonsense" I'm going to complain bitterly when someone tries to change it. My nonsense is INVIOLABLE. How dare they adulterate my nonsense with other nonsense? I'm going right to the mat with this one. My nonsense is a clear artistic creation with a specific author and aesthetic pla— oh shit.
