I have been beefing about the Times media desk a little recently, so it's definitely on me to say that today's story about the pending sale of Philadelphia's newspapers is AMAZING and BRUTAL. The likely buyers—who are being prevented from having any competing bidders in the sale—are former governor Ed Rendell, the owner of the Philly Flyers, a Democrat party bundler and a "parking lot and banking magnate." What could go wrong?

I can't hear you, I'm too busy being horrified by the sight of sliced tomatoes on that cheesesteak. WHAT EVEN?????
@jolie There ain't nothing wrong with a cheesesteak hoagie!
@jolie WIZ WITH OR GTFO.
My choice for new Inquirer/DN publisher: the talking robot from Rocky IV #KeepItLocal
When did "Democrat party" become a phrase used by people who don't work for Fox News?
@Vera Knoop I know this is a "hot-button" issue, and that it's a Thing done by the right wing; but in this case, he is a bundler and a Democrat. He is a Democrat bundler. It's just noun/adjective difference. (Party and bundler are going together here, in my mind, not Democrat and party.) I KNOW THIS SOUNDS PEDANTIC AND WEIRD but I promise I'm choosing intentionally.
ANYWAY, THIS STORY: OMG.
@Choire Sicha Fair enough! I was reading it the other way. And I always trust you to choose intentionally, which is why I thought it worth mentioning at all. Thanks for the response! And yes, it is a hell of a story.
@Choire Sicha Yeah, but "Philly Flyers"?! That's just sad.
@keisertroll At least it wasn't "Phillies Flyers."
@Choire Sicha So the Democratic Governor's Association is just an association for governors who have been democratically elected and not for governors who are members of the Democratic Party? Your saying he's a Democrat who bundles parties but he is a bundler for the Democratic Party. I think you're dead wrong on this and it is undermining America.
I wonder how many swear words they had to edit out of Buzz's quote.
At least with Ed Snider owning them Philadelphia will finally give the disenfranchised Ayn Rand supporters a voice.
As a South Jerseyan, I'm worried more about the Norcross machine getting control of the media than Ed Rendell. The shelved story about Cooper Hospital scares me.
@keisertroll What's the Cooper Hospital story? I'm an avid hate-reader of anything George Norcross-related.
@boyofdestiny Deep in part two of this article they mentioned an article that wasn't published about conflicts of interest regarding Cooper Hospital in Camden. Norcross says they're inaccurate and they seem to give him the benefit of the doubt.
@keisertroll About eight or nine years ago some acquaintances of mine wrote and illustrated a book about the Norcross machine, although the guy they implicitly posit as the hope of fixing things later went to jail.
@keisertroll And don't even get me started about how Norcross and Christie want to lob off Rutgers-Camden and give it to Rowan University. Sure I'm half-ashamed of my safety school alma mater, but it's MY safety school alma mater, Goddammit!
@keisertroll /takes deep breath and twenty Seconal.
@keisertroll Thanks! You deserve a deep breath. And a hoagie.
@boyofdestiny Pay me in Wawa.
@keisertroll Hey, my alma mater doesn't want your alma mater, either! Let's go get a Tastykake and commiserate! Or perhaps some scrapple?
@keisertroll Ugh, yes, I'm upset enough that his buddy Steve Sweeney took over the State Senate from Codey. Normally I'm given to making snide quips about South Jersey, but, seriously, this business is breathtakingly eye-popping. (How's that for mixing my metaphors, Chorie?)
One more thing, it could be worse; during the last ownership the Inquirer made a semi-conscious effort to "combat perceived biases" by adding a lot of conservative voices, including John Yoo.
@keisertroll Ugh, Yoo.
Frankly, it's not as if former owners have done such a bang-up job themselves.
