Judging Books

A collection of improbable yet real book titles, including The City and The City by China Mieville: "the title makes it sound like Sex and the City minus the sex parts: 'Why is it that every time you meet a guy in New York…you meet him?'” (This also seems like an okay place to note that a book called Becoming China's Bitch is in Amazon's top 10 right now.)

I'm going to go ahead and say that The City and the City is actually a great read.

@cloudy808 Yes, The City and The City is wonderful.

@cloudy808 This! What's unfortunate is that you can't give even the most cursory outline of the plot and premise without spoiling half of what makes it a fun read. The best I've come up with is "It's a Kafkaesque noir detective story sort of PS read this book."

It’s an amazing work, the kind that stays in your imagination. I see Clive Owen in the movie. (Though China Miéville rather poo-pooed the idea that a novel, if it eats its greens and grows up strong, should fulfill its destiny and become a film.)
