Unemployment Not Absolutely the Worst Ever!

This morning's new job numbers: what do they mean?

• The "u6"—that is, you nerds know, unemployed people plus "marginally attached" employed people plus people unwillingly employed part-time (as opposed to full-time)— is only 16.2%! Just like it was in August. Just like it was in June. Still, a year ago, it was 17%.

• There is a very, very slight trending uptick in men and young people getting jobs.

• Above: the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the last ten years, for all people 16 and older.

Ugh. So many numbers all laid out there. Tells me NOTHING about what I feeeeeel about unemployment. And I feel this administration has done nothing to get us to our goal of zero unemployment. #Cain2012

@Abe Sauer Show me where it says zero unemployment is everybody's goal, kemosabe.

@dntsqzthchrmn Under Ronald Reagan there were so many jobs people were working 2 or 3 at a time!

@Abe Sauer And under Clinton W'Obama some of us are working 4 or 6 — things must be twice as good as they were back then.

@dntsqzthchrmn Nothing is ever, ever as good now as it was back then.

What's weird about this economy since May 2010 is that private employers have added 2.28million jobs while public employers have cut more than 1million jobs.
