Happy Birthday, Lion Cubs! Enjoy Your "Bloodcicles" And The Excellent New Wild Flag Video!

The seven lion cubs at Washington, DC's National Zoo (four of whom we watched learn to swim last fall) are celebrating their first birthday this morning with individually wrapped "bloodcicles," which are just what they sound like. As an extra treat, zookeepers might also want to let them watch the new video for Wild Flag's "Romance," because it is totally excellent.

You know what my problem with Wild Flag is? Not enough Mary Timony.

I hear that. "Pirate Prude" still sounds better to me than just about any of the other "Nevermind-y" records that came out in the immediate wake of "Nevermind." (And there were many, many such records.) It is the heavy heavy business, "Pirate Prude."

Also I'm just biased toward Corin over Carrie to begin with.

@Dave Bry @Matt Interested parties should also look into Timony's Kill Rock Stars LP from 2007, The Shapes We Make. (Full band behind her and everything.)

This is indeed a good video, though it should not be watched by anyone currently homesick for Portland. (Miss u, Jackpot Records, Red E cafe, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.)

Thumbs up from me even though this punky garagey stuff isn't really my cup of tea anymore. I'm just a sucker for girls with guitars.

I'm going to bake a square-shaped pie in honor of this video (then tell my boss to suck my asshole and walk out.)
