Today's Groupon: Helping People with HIV for Half Off
Today's New York City Groupon offering is a 50% discount at Housing Works' nonprofit thrift stores, which raise money to assist people living with HIV. For $20, you can receive $40 worth of things! Oh, just FYI: "A pair of designer shoes that sells for $40 in one of our stores provides ten days worth of hot meals for a homeless HIV+ mother and her child." Enjoy your discount. :(

I'm calling dibs on that sofa.
waitaminnit, @IBentMyWookie, we're supposed to haggle!
@IBentMyWookie: You still have $12 credit.
$10 is better than $0
@Ma.K. Right? This is the thing. I mean, definitely Housing Works did some cost-benefit analysis and decided they could move stuff at a discount and maybe take on some new customers. I hope it works out for them! I also hope there excellent Tumblr publishes the results of this experiment.
@Ma.K. Oh, I can play this game too! $20 is better than $10! $40 is better than $20!
@heb Your math is absolutely correct, I can confirm–but, the point originally being, I think, that $10 is of a substantially different *quality* than zero dollars, in a way that $10 and $20 are not different.
@Choire Sicha: True. $10 has a smell and a taste. $0 is totally odorless.
I was disappointed that this wasn't a sponsored post.
Because I enjoy punishment, I follow Housing Works' wonderful Tumblr account even though I live on the West Coast. When I eventually make it out that way, I'm pretty sure my excitement about visiting Housing Works will outrank that of, say, the Empire State Building.
