"House of Holes": Mini-Excerpt #1
"May I ask who you are?" she asked politely.
The hands stopped. "I am Alexander Borodin, the very famous Russian composer," said the voice.
Luna looked back at Chuck, who had begun playing with her hair. "But Alex," she said, "didn't you write the Polovetsian Dances something like a hundred and twenty, hundred and thirty years ago?"
"Yes, but I'm here now to play your leg like the keys of a piano keyboard," he said.
Chuck kissed her forehead. "Just enjoy it."
"Okay, carry on," Luna said.
Nicholson Baker's House of Holes will be released on August 9th. It's… like this.

Honestly? With a name like House of Holes I was hoping for something a little more lubricant.
@saythatscool I was hoping for something a little more Zeppelin.
@Dave Bry I was thinking of something a little more Courtney Love.
@saythatscool I used to have a friend who referred to his long time GF as 'my hole'. He would say this upon introducing her to someone at a party.
@Dave Bry I was hoping for something a little more doughnut.
"For Christ sake Chuck, time travel's been totally discredited."
Just reading the phrase "Polovetsian Dances" makes me yell "Stranger in Paradise" as I flash back to long, dull junior high Saturday nights babysitting and watching infomercials.
"Remember this wonderful melody?"
So that's how that is.
I loved The Anthologist.
@Missing Child No Reward I did too. But what exactly is… this… supposed to be? This might be a level or two too postmodern for me to "get".
Oh what in the damn HELL.
What sort of abominable dilettante goes with Polovtsian Dances when there's String Quartet No 2 in D Major?
I am so not reading this. Unless the "Luna" mentioned is Luna Lovegood, in which case the aforementioned…lunacy would be forgivable.
