Is this "the first truly despicable classical album cover"? Sure, why the hell not.

Nelson Muntz added to that cover would have been offensive. Just having the image sans context? Whatevs.

Look up "Blind Faith" 1969 if you want something exciting.

But also a lot more awesome! My problem with this cover is less that it's offensive and more that it's so literal that it seems schmaltzy and mawkish, like it could be the cover to Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?, whereas the music itself is weird and abstract so it doesn't seem overly sentimental, I think they should have picked a more abstract image to represent 9/11.

@hypnosifl sorry I was looking for bad 9/11 related songs and linked to the wrong one, here's an actual link to Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?

Statistically 9/11 Americans won't understand that cover.

Art Yucko (#1,321)

If they try to read the book they'll never make it to the 9/11 chapter.

The image requires a real touch to carry off, and it's actually the typography here that just blows it. There's near zero sensitivity in the handling of the type.

@ep I'll agree with that. The framing is too blunt also, if it was zoomed-in and stylized more to my liking, it's aesthetics might not be such an eyesore.

HiredGoons (#603)

I'm not offended, it just looks cheap – like a glowing lighter at a midtown souvenir shop. Steve Reich loses on this one on a purely artistic level, cultural sensitivity discussions aside; it's just a BAD album cover.

Art Yucko (#1,321)

Philip Glass would've gotten a pass.

saythatscool (#101)

@Art Yucko That's why Philip Glass gets all the ass.

None more black.
