What The Situation Room Picture Tells Us

WWD surveyed six photo editors and designers about the soon-to-be iconic photo of the Obama team's briefing during the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. This is definitely one of the more interesting things you'll read all day; each interviewee brings something different to the story.

Needs more Downfall meme.

Abe Sauer (#148)

And you know it's genuine because the table isn't full of Macbooks.

@Abe Sauer Terrorism doesn't scare me. Running the government on Microsoft Windows does.

Abe Sauer (#148)

@Clarence Rosario Not as much as being forced to run it through iTunes does me.

@Abe Sauer True. Apple gets a 30% cut of all government contracts awarded through iTunes.

Joe Biden isn't sleeping, speaking or laughing.

boyofdestiny (#1,243)

That's the situation room?

laurel (#4,035)

Seriously. It looks like the business center at the Hyatt in Salt Lake City.

Art Yucko (#1,321)

a wave of the Trump wand and the walls can be clad in travertine and gold putti if you want.

@boyofdestiny "Gentlemen, you can't have a situation in here! This is the Situation Room!"

boyofdestiny (#1,243)

Needs more hot tub.

boyofdestiny (#1,243)

@boyofdestiny Blech. I ignored the Dr. Strangelove gag and made a Jersey Shore joke. There's no hope for the youngs…

Art Yucko (#1,321)

No Smoosh Room for you.

deepomega (#1,720)

@boyofdestiny: Don't worry, just out of frame is a Microsoft Surface(tm) desktop interface. For zooming in on maps.

"There’s nothing scripted about this photo."

Oy vey. It's the visual equivalent of a fargin' press release. Paging Errol Morris.

hungrybee (#2,091)

No frames from Pete Souza, that's what I noted.

Flashman (#418)

@hungrybee But there is a beam of light illuminating Obama.

@hungrybee And where's the football?

deepomega (#1,720)

@forget it i quit: Where's the framed Lincoln portrait? I thought Obama had one he carried with him and hung wherever he was standing.

laurel (#4,035)

@hungrybee Needs more apples.

Lockheed Ventura (#5,536)

Bam had a lot of money on the Lakers that night.

KarenUhOh (#19)

Tell me, which one looks like the President here?

soco (#8,225)

@KarenUhOh The guy in the blue shirt with his arms crossed, guh.

Lockheed Ventura (#5,536)

@KarenUhOh Daley all the way.

laurel (#4,035)

@KarenUhOh The way the photo is framed? Hillary.

whizz_dumb (#10,650)

@soco: What is John Lithgow doing there?

IBentMyWookie (#133)

You're reading Women's Wear Daily, now? You HAVE been spending too much time around Choire.

El Matardillo (#586)

The little brunette in the back looks kinda cute.

Maevemealone (#968)

@El Matardillo http://powerwall.msnbc.msn.com/politics/audrey-tomason-situation-room-mystery-woman-1687402.story Seems someone might have had her cover blown in this photo op.

MaryHaines (#3,666)

Eh, it's nice and all, but it would be better if it had a little sulking flower girl in the corner with her hands over her ears.

BadUncle (#153)

Looks like Buck Turgidson is Tweeting.

deepomega (#1,720)

The Plight Of The White Man.

paperbackwriter (#2,844)

What, the photographer from High Times wasn't available for comment?

Pop Socket (#187)

To quote Terri Schuester, what sort of meeting doesn't have bagels or something?

Bittersweet (#765)

@Pop Socket: Not sure it was that kind of party…

riotnrrd (#840)

@Bittersweet Obviously, since nobody has their dick the mashed potatoes.

@riotnrrd bless you

mpappas (#8,511)

Wait, isn't this from the 3rd round of the NFL draft?

BirdNerd (#4,196)

I can't get over how comically small the room is…and the lack of available seating.

And I'm pretty sure they're all watching Mr. Uniform on the last level of Legend of Zelda.

Matt Cornell (#8,797)

Everyone is clamoring for the OBL corpse photos, but I'd like to see the video record of what these folks were watching at this moment. And it undoubtedly exists somewhere.

It would certainly clear up the controversies about whether this was an assassination or a "police action."
