Exciting news! Awl pal Elizabeth Spiers has been named Editor in Chief of the New York Observer. Presumably we will have more to say about this when the half of the editorial team that follows this topic obsessively returns from lunch, so stay tuned.

The circle is now complete, or something. Delightful news.
Oh I just figured he was busy picking up the pieces of his head, post-explosion, from the office floor.
Which is so silly of me, because duh – Choire would never clean up the office.
This toast has pieces of my brain on it.
Is the new editor's column titled "Ask Me Anything"?
ZING!
Remember folks, it's pronounced "spy-ers," not "spears." Try not to embarrass yourself at happy-hour discussion time this evening …
I don't know if I ever mentioned this before, but I love Elizabeth Spiers
Is she still going to be allowed to own her blog empire? Can you be the owner of one publishing concern while being an employee at another?
Lovely news!
Wonderful, awesome news. Elizabeth is someone who organically understands digital culture from both the business and "creative" side. Takeaway: The Observer is now infinitely more relevant.
It's wonderful to picture Choire returning from lunch over and over and over again, until he gets it right.
Excellent casting for the remake of "Groundhog Day"!
How soon till this embodiment of the Peter Principle abets the firing of an underlying, justifying it to the press as not having been “a good fit”?
So she'll be moving because of creative differences and a desire to do her own thing by September?
oh you beautiful Awl-y pessimists you!
Pretty amazing right? Because this Elizabeth Spiers move is so pitch perfect it’s amazing. All these print publications have been violently shunning the way the web works for years. Now the Observer finally hires the right sherpa to guide them through the Interwebs. This is fantastic news! Much more true, long-term optimistism in this.
HuffPo & AOL though… Yeeesh. Good luck with that!
