The Google Maps Guessing Game

Oh no, work stopped, it's the Find Where In The World This Google Street View Shot Is From Game! Goes nicely with this gallery of Google Street View shots by Michael Wolf.

Smitros (#5,315)

Could set up the best drinking game ever.

Someone has to be first and probably wrong, so it may as well be me: central Mexico near the volcano Popocatepetl.

Flashman (#418)

That's the far northern suburbs of Naples, just past the IKEA

can someone explain this game to me? i get that the pink square means i'm wrong, but i've narrowed that picture down to somewhere outside bogota near chingaza national park – and then nothing… :-(

It doesn't seem to tell you/recognize when you've won. I ran out of guesses somewhere on a roadless mountainside near where you're looking, but the city would have been enough.

ow that hurt (#3,919)

It does seem like a poorly designed game, based on a good idea.

I'm guessing that like JEOPARDY questions, there is some hint in the photo? Landmark?
The mountains? One or both are volcanoes? Maybe someone will improve upon this.

Exene (#2,244)

And there are only four or five different pics available? Am I doing it wrong? If this were working perfectly I'd sit here and play it all day and night.

I like that winning always seems to just be out of reach.

But I'm perverse like that.

I narrowed one of the pictures down, via clicking, to the Atlantic shore of the United States. Then, after exhausting all my clicks, I learned I was looking at a city in Bahrain. I could be wrong, but my limited knowledge of geography suggests that Bahrain is nowhere near the east coast of the United States.
