Giant Caucasian Athlete Understands Plight Of Downtrodden

Nobody knows the troubles he's seen"He wasn't seriously making the comparison. In no way was it an attempt to minimize the challenges that members of the minority community face."
- A spokesman for Oregon Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Dudley explains his boss' remark that he understood the problems of minorities because he himself was a minority as a professional basketball player. Dudley, a white Yale grad, spent 16 years in the NBA.

He's a shoe chin… I mean in, in.

Looks kind of like a Hapsberg, no?

I was thinking Bruce Campbell, but we can both be right.

Once, just once, I would like a politician to run a campaign stalking around braying, "THIS IS MY BOOM-STICK" to anyone within earshot.

Chris Dudley's running for governor? I assumed he was still sitting the bench somewhere in the NBA. Shit like this makes me feel old.

I don't know the context, or anything about Chris Dudley, but…

When I was in elementary school in Jersey City, I was the only white girl in my class, and while I would never claim to have personally experienced what it's like to be an oppressed minority, I definitely think that it made it easier for me to understand and empathize.

He claims it was a harmless joke that was of no importance, just like his NBA career.

Sigh.

Like those guys raised by single mothers who insist they understand any and all women's issues. "And you know, I also HAVE a sister!"

The spokesman explained his boss's remark, not "his boss' remark."

This is a guy who averaged 45% from the freethrow line. He was even a minority amongst white players. I'll give him a pass.
