Wacky Plush Toys Bring Joy Of Mental Illness To Soft, Huggable Life

The gang's all hereHere's the perfect gift for the neurotic in your life: "A German toymaker has unveiled a controversial new range of animals which all have psychiatric illnesses.... 'Patients' from the Paraplush toy company include Dub the turtle with severe depression, Sly the snake who suffers from terrifying hallucinations, Dolly the sheep with a multiple personality disorder and a crocodile with an irrational fear of water."

They stole this from my line of toy baby animals with fatal illnesses! (Oh, the treatment plan was a nice touch on their part.)

What's wrong with the hippo? I guess it's not bulimia...

That's Hippy, the Special Needs Hippo Pajama Case.

Much as I would like to think otherwise, the zipper mouth probably doesn't have anything to do with his mental illness.

"The patient has been trying to solve a wooden jigsaw puzzle for the past few months without success. He is so absorbed in this repetitive activity that he is unaware of his surroundings most of the time. Ever since his disorder has begun, the patient hasn't talked to anyone. A connection between the inability to speak and the compulsive urge to solve jigsaw puzzles seems likely.

The patient urgently needs your help!"

wood blocks are bigger than the shown ones.

A Review:
Lilo
by Katherine Mc Manus Date Added: Tuesday 15 September, 2009 [old news I guess?-garge]
Lilo is here! He's really soft and quite heavy and a bit beany. He's pretty much exactly as he appears in the picture only smaller (I think he looks about 30cm tall in the picture when he's only 20cm). I loved the postcards (yes there are postcards, I got three. One of them has Lilo and his blocks and Tetris game, the other two have Sly tripping out and Lilo tying Sly in a knot) and letter that came with him and he's incredibly well made. I really recommend him to anyone and I'll want to buy Dub..

Shouldn't Dolly be called Sybil?
(Also, how do you depict MPD in a stuffed animal?)

City_Dater
City_Dater (#2,500)

I bet she turns inside out to reveal another "side" of herself, like those rag dolls with the skirt that turns inside out and upside down to reveal another rag doll of a different race.

Bittersweet

Perhaps you unzip her down the middle and all the alternative personalities are inside...

Hmm, I like City_Dater's idea better.

As in life, it is all in the eyes.

First you have to have MPD. Then you have to project.

@citydater: OMG - that's exactly what Dolly does. You turn her inside-out and she's a wolf!

Aahhh! "The call is coming from inside the herd!"

DorothyMantooth

Aww, the fact that she's a wolf in sheep's clothing makes me love her! (But I will continue to call her Sybil.)

At lest people really care about him:

By Veronika Pecena
"Kroko came today! At first he didn't want to get out of the box, so I decorated it with little flowers and furnished it with an extra pillow, so he can sleep in it. After a while he relaxed a bit so I introduced him to my other toys. He seemed to get acquainted with them quite quickly. I hope that every disorder will be cured very soon. Maybe I'll get another of his psychotic friends, it would be better for him to have around someone he knows."

These are characters from an oldish German Flash game, Die Anstalt: http://www.parapluesch.de/

They are also tragically adorable on their own, of course

They're going to have to be extra sure that Dub the Turtle is made of flame-resistant materials. Otherwise, there's going to be a spate of fires after children attempt to give him electroshock therapy.
