A reader writes: "When I first saw this story about a blind lhasa apso that has a seeing-eye chihuahua, I thought 'Oh good, a happy story. I should send this to The Awl; they seem so down these days.' Then I got to the part where their new owner has to give them up because she has breast cancer. Sorry. Still, cute dogs."
I mean, COME ON. This week is totally not going down without a fight. Let's all pull together and do what we can to get through it, okay?

I was looking at dogs last night (I can't get one yet but I can window shop!) so this is just making me want, like, five dogs. All elderly rescues!
I dare you to watch Animal Cops on Animal Planet (it is a sick day/unemployment go-to in the sad world that is daytime television) and not want to rescue like a thousand dogs (even though you are sick/unemployed) that afternoon.
This is my go-to "if I won the lottery" scenario: buy a ranch in Sonoma County, hire a staff to go to all high-kill shelters, rescue the dogs, and care for them on the ranch.
And grow grapes.
Perfect, Clarence! I'll also have a program where underprivileged, undereducated children can come to my vineyard/dog-saving-place and play with the dogs, which will teach them about unconditional love, and then, for good measure, we will also teach them how to read. Then somebody will make a heartwarming movie about my ranch, and I'll be able to use that money to save more dogs.
clarence, my respect and admiration for you grows daily.
