I assume you're looking for a fight with "the world's greatest lyricist"

Brad Nelson (#2,115)

Lester Bangs' book about Blondie really makes the case for this claim.

KarenUhOh (#19)

Yeah. Which cheek is which tongue in?

LondonLee (#922)

I'm not disagreeing entirely but it does seem like one of those left-field claims rock critics often make to be controversial and iconoclastic.

LondonLee (#922)

And I was playing 'Parallel Lines' just yesterday so I do like Blondie.

G Garcia-Fenech (#4,190)

I love Blondie (or rather, some of their songs), but have you read the lyrics to Heart of Glass? It reads like it was written using Google Translate.

"Ideal society gunned down the 70's."

Tell it, Choire. For you doubters, please google the lyrics to "X Offender" and truly understand a better American pop song has never been written. However, as it pertains to La Harry, the rhyming of "restaurant" and "debutante" kind of sealed the deal for me and her generalized coolness is the reason I started dying this mop of hair and wearing pointy shiny boots about thirty years ago.

Brad Nelson (#2,115)

For Bangs, it was less an outsized claim than a real admiration for how she captured the weird malaise of the time. There's a particular deadness and absence sketched by her lyrical concerns.

LondonLee (#922)

Still don't think she beats Smokey Robinson.

"…Cold as ice cream but still as sweet." Team Harry.

There you were, beautiful
The promise of love was written on your face
You led me on with untrue kisses
You held me captured in your false embrace
Quicker than I can bat an eye
Since you were telling me goodbye

Oh, just a minute ago your love was here
All of a sudden it seem to disappear
Sweetness was only heartaches camouflage
The love I saw in you was just a mirage
You promised that love we forever share
But all I have are memories of love that was never there

We use to meet in romantic places
You gave the illusion that your love was real
Now all that's left are lipstick traces
From the kisses you only pretended to feel
And now our meetings you avoid
And so my world you have destroyed

Oh, just a minute ago your love was here
All of a sudden it seem to disappear
The way you wrecked my life was like sabotage
The love I saw in you was just a mirage
You brought me up just to throw me down
You left me and my dreams shattered all on the ground

Oh you only feel me with despair
By showing love that wasn't there
Just like the desert shows a thirsty man
A green oasis where there's only sand
You lured me into something I should have dodged
The love I saw in you was just a mirage
To you I gave true love from deep within
You made me hungry for your love, but it was no deeper than your skin

No poltergeists in my building – the lease specifically prohibits it.

BadUncle (#153)

It would be more credible if it came from Roky Erickson.

HiredGoons (#603)

I have a ghost story that will make you shit bricks.

untitled HD (#4,555)

Do tell!
I live in a round house, built by a woman who later hanged herself.

Things disappear.. things you need (scissors, hot glue gun, cigarette
lighter).. and they re-appear later, in odd places.

(Or, it is because my BF is a stoner.)
