Anti-Muslim Cabbie Stabber Charged with Attempted Murder

FOR SARAH PALINThat scandalous, unbelievable story of a cab-driver being repeatedly stabbed on Monday night by a man who first asked if the driver was Muslim? Well, believe it. The alleged stabber has been charged with "attempted murder as a hate crime, assault, aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon." Also, he worked for "an Internet media company who had recently spent time with a combat unit in Afghanistan filming military exercises." The incident took place on a ride between the dreaded Kip's Bay and the even more-dreaded Murray Hill, which are both, as we all know, just a "stone's throw" from Ground Zero.

Wow! I'm not sure why I'm surprised by the comments on the NY Post article.

Although I do somewhat enjoy that all the people who comment on what a horrible thing this is also have to point out that they are "vehemently againt the mosque" and "Islam is a huge threat to us".

It's like "but some of my friends are black/gay/whatever" but in reverse!

Don't get me wrong… I'm still a bigot. High five!

What's most ironic is that most cabbies are Sikhs.

But nuance and America do not good bedfellows make.

Its like October 2001 all over again.

"Don't Freak, I'm Sikh"

He might've gotten the surprise of his life if he'd tried that on a full-fledged kirpan-wielding Sikh.

Speaking of things that are a "stone's throw" from each other, who takes a cab from Kips Bay to Murray Hill?

Someone with an itchy stabbing hand?

HiredGoons (#603)

the Zodiac.

Awesome, here she is.

"While a minority of has-been politicians spew ignorance and fear, it's the working person on the street who has to face the consequences," said NYTWA Executive Director Bhairavi Desai. "This kind of bigotry only breeds more violence and makes taxi drivers all the more vulnerable on the streets where there are no bully pulpits or podiums to hide behind."

Oh, that's good.

From the TPM story on the kid:

Michael Enright is a film student at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and has been working with the Intersection International, a multifaith and multicultural effort which seeks to promote justice and peace. The project's website is strongly supportive of the Cordoba House project in lower Manhattan and videos of its leader, Imam Faisel Rauf, are posted on their website.

I am kind of hoping that he just went off his (apparently quite strong) meds?

Work will be rather awkward for him tomorrow.

Read that the weapon involved was a Leatherman, so the guy's either a tech geek or a bear.

Hey yall, where is BrianVan defending Murray Hill? Anyone?

Really if it makes cabs stop going to Murray Hill all the better.

*seriously, someone explain to me the appeal/pleasure of Vertigo and get a sweatshirt from 1997*
