Come Along for the W Train's Final Ride!

SO LONG LOSER TRAINWhat are you doing at 10:17 p.m. on Friday night? There's a PARTY TRAIN with your name on it! "On Friday Night, June 25, 2010, the W Train-the bastard stepchild of the BMT-Astoria Line-will make its final run from Ditmars Boulevard to Whitehall Street, a victim of the MTA's 2010 Budget Cuts. On the final night of the W, and on its last fateful ride, come celebrate with us as we commemorate the short, complicated and often pathetic life of our beloved W."

How come there has never been an H train? I mean, the P train, I can see why they passed that one up. But why no love for humble but noble H?

charlie parker was fond of riding the h train.

As of May 2004, "The Map" (the official MTA map) shows the Rockaway Park Shuttle in gray. In order to distinguish it from the other shuttles, NYCT Rapid Transit operations refers to it internally as the H.

Or an I train? Seems perfect for the self-centered commuter.

No 8 train, either. There used to be a sign for the old K train at 16th and 8th, but I don't know if it's still there.

@Vox: The Narcissism Express: leaving at whatever time it damn well chooses.

Short, complicated and pathetic. How long has Tom Cruise had his own train?

VoxPopuli (#1,060)

This would be like going to a funeral for someone I've never met.

It's not often you get to actually ride the decedent, though.

Pffft, call me when we're back to pneumatic tubes.

Yeah. I want my jetpack!

You'll all ride the subway and you'll like it!

The future has been such a disappointment.

Ultimate way to say goodbye? Start biking to work. I started in May. Loving it. I never realized how much I really hate the subway.

My daily commute used to take me from Brooklyn to City Hall and back via the R. Every once in a while I would board a refreshingly uncrowded train at City Hall and take a moment of pleasure in all the empty seats. It would usually take about one stop for me to realize I'd gotten on the W and that it would not take me past Whitehall. Far from a tragedy, but still, this is one more "W" I won't be missing.

HiredGoons (#603)

Is Michael Alig behind this?

After the train, WE'RE ALL MEETING AT BURGER KING!
Aoki is going to be giving out free blowjobs in the ladies bathroom.

This MDMA Train is going EXPRESS!!!

The X Train!

Jeff Laughlin (#4,390)

Dude, I am so there.

Matt Cherette (#2,720)

This is very upsetting to me.

I remember the first ride of the W! Me and Jelly Roll Morton were headed up to what was then called Greektown to see the Giants play the Dodgers at the old player-piano factory. It was a wonderful sunny day in July and urchinous raggamuffins were rolling hoops along the cobbled streets and all seemed right with the world. Then the zeppelins came…

egad (#1,355)

Um, what about the V finishing friday also? I mean I know it is relatively new… but to be cut down so early in its life…

I am very confused about the V/M situation. Am I better or worse off?

HiredGoons (#603)

where ever you go, there you are.

egad (#1,355)

Thank you.

Occasionally though, due to absent mindedness, I find myself elsewhere. Sometimes this is due to 'electrical repairs'.

egad (#1,355)

Ugh. Meant to be a reply.
