Jon Meacham Putting Together Bid for 'Newsweek'

This guyIn today's meeting, at which the announcement was made that Newsweek was being put up for sale by the Washington Post Company, the magazine's editor Jon Meacham said that he will be lining up financiers and trying to make a bid to buy the magazine himself. He has already had inquiries from some very well-off types this morning. Tonight's "Daily Show" appearance-he's been booked for ages-should be really something! Meacham is currently talking to reporters and juggling calls, so expect more soonish. Update: The Observer's John Koblin talks to Meacham, who uses a lot of words to explain that he doesn't quite have it figured out yet but that he's ready to roll!

Got Meach?

I'm in for $5! But I want a window office.

Since no one hires photographers anymore (thanks, Flickr!), Sign me up for Photo Editor. Ditto on that bewindowed office thing.

thanks for the tip seth colter walls!

Despite how it may appear, I'm *never* Choire's source for this stuff. Remember: Daddy has a lot of email friends. (But you should feel free to think of me as an abettor of the Habermas LOLz.)

Yeah, that's really not fair, and actually I might delete it? Seth IRRITATINGLY and RESOLUTELY refuses to talk about Newsweek related things with me.

I say we let Charlie Booker buy it and turn it into the print version of Newswipe.

Brooker. Grrrrr…

Erik Maza (#4,544)

How about News Corp buy it. Johnathon Alter has to report into Rupert Murdoch and Rupert says, You're fired!!! Would love it..

A buyer's group.
Made of the same people who sank the magazine.
Yeah, there's a sound business model.
Let's go with that.

Here's an idea: Let's resurrect the captain of the Hindenburg and start an airtine!
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. After all, the Democrat morons who caused the financial crisis are in charge of causing another one, after all.
