Reporter John Cook Leaving Gawker

SAD YOUNG LITERARY GOSSIP BLOGGERReporter John Cook has departed Gawker. Gawker Media publisher Nick Denton wildly undermined Cook on the way out the door, writing that "Gawker's awesome John Cook is about to disappear into the maw of Yahoo" on his Twitter. This is Yahoo's bazillionth hire in the last few months.

Nuh-uh. I call shenanegans. This smells suspiciously April Foolsish.

Ha! Your instinct is a good one. But I do believe this one is true.

Hey, you guys broke a story – you should get a NYT profile!

David Cho (#3)

Choire is a rising blog star.

Aatom (#74)

I would pay $5 to see Choire posing with a murse.

"The journalists joining Yahoo News, the most-visited news site on the Web, include prominent reporters and editors like…"
Hey NYT, I know you guys do similarly conceited "all the news that's fit to print" claims, and that your own swollen, unquestioned boasts may lead you to parrot other news org's similar claims, but, c'mon, perspective much?

LolCait (#460)

Sigh.

NicFit (#616)

He'll be back ;-)

Vulpes (#946)

Don't worry, Richard! Someday "The Adventures of Countess LuAnn and Gudalupe: A Novel" will take the world by storm and you can finally kiss Nick's megalocephalous ass goodbye!

KarenUhOh (#19)

Let's face it. All this shit went maw-ward a long time back.

Telegram Sam (#3,847)

Shit + maw-ward: that's an image I won't get out of my mind for a while.

BadUncle (#153)

Technically, Yahoo's maw is called a "pie-hole."

JKJV (#1,068)

for fuck's sake

BoHan (#29)

It's time to update the Gawker Receptionist's Arrival/Departure TV Monitor.

The picture here is reminding me of the picture here.

Or the picture here.

I still insist that he's a pirate. Yaaaaaaarggh! Mr. Cook!

Apparently Yahoo was in need of someone who knows how to file a FOIA request.

"Maw of Yahoo" sounds dirty.

conklin (#364)

Established writers are cheap compared to established engineers, and news sites launch faster than big technological features? Yahoo is on the serious Billy Beane/Moneyball tip right now.

Vulpes (#946)

Based on the 60% of the face on offer, Mr. Cook is kind of a hottie. Who knew?

Tuna Surprise (#573)

We should upgrade that to 100% hottie.

RonMwangaguhung (#3,697)

**two snaps and a neck roll**

Vulpes (#946)

Oh yes! A little grim on that picture, but I kinda have a think for preppies.

But will he still stalk the stalkers?!

RonMwangaguhung (#3,697)

HOTTness! Who is that Fantastic man kissing the art piece. Yum!

Sergio Hernandez (#3,273)

I feel kind of orphaned.

Whose intern am I now!?

sailor (#396)

From one maw to another.

Aatom (#74)

That's it. After Pareene escapes, I'm done.
