Here is the undisputed Queen of Hip-hop Soul singing the all-time number one definitive classic-rock song on Oprah Winfrey's daytime TV talk show. I love Led Zeppelin. I love Mary J. Blige. But this never should have happened.

I don't love Mary J. Blige. At all. Should I?
(This is a semi-serious question. Dave Bry and I are usually on a similar musical page!)
No.
What a relief.
Time for a Public Apology from Ms. J. Blige?
Oh dear.
Doesn't she know that that song is SATANIC!?! WWJD?
Only when it comes at you sideways like crazy radiowaves from space.
mary j. clearly heard the dolly parton cover and thought "hey, i can do that too!" and while dolly made it kind of gospelly and awesome with the banjos and whatever, this is just a no.
also, the sunglasses. it's like she walked into the studio while she was out shopping to sing and then go back to bloomingdales. also no.
reminds me of when aretha franklin sang nessun dorma. my wife's family was enthralled. i was about to say something about poor decisions when i realized they all loved it.
Bingo! Thank you.
Oh my goodness. Hey, I like both Zep & Mary J. And I really do appreciate that Mary J. likes Led Zeppelin (that's pretty cool). But I also think this shouldn't have happened. If it introduces a different audience to Zep, maybe some good will have come out of it.
She eliminated about 6 verses (no "there's a feeling I get, when I look to the west"; "rings of smoke through the trees"; "your head is humming"; etc). But maybe that's a good thing, since it made it end sooner!
