And now the brilliant New York State Assembly has a bill that would apparently, really, ban all salt usage in restaurants. No seriously, this is the description in full: "Prohibits the use of salt by restaurants in the preparation of food by restaurants." It is off to the Committee on Health, where they are going to laugh and laugh and roll around on the floor and laugh some more before deep-sixing it in some filing cabinet somewhere. Mrs. Dash has lobbyists! Who knew?
I've carried French sea salt in my pockets for years.
Legislators are such pansies. A real health hero would ban salt from food prepared anywhere, including your kitchen, and not just restaurants.
Prepare for the Salt Police!
*bullhorn feedback* "Attention, Mrs. Jones. Put down the Morton's and step away from the stove. I repeat..."
**insert Rep. Massa joke here**
Is this just in the preparation, or like are they coming for the shakers too?
I mean, both ideas are stupid; I guess I just want to know what degree of stupidity we're working with here.
Assume the worst.

Awesome.
SPOILER ALERT
I think we should ban the State Assembly.
Because now that the economy is fine and everyone has jobs, we can get down to the important stuff.
Condiments.
They came for the salt users and I said nothing because I preferred chutney...
They've already tried to prevent me from licking it off my companion's forehead.
About time we got a Choire baby picture
This, from the genius who brought you the proposed salt ban:
"Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz (Brooklyn), will soon be introducing legislation that will call on the State Comptroller to cease investments in corporations that design, manufacture, and sell provocative children's clothing. The Assemblyman has been approached by parents, advocacy groups, and individuals concerned about the lack of modest youth and teen or "juniors" clothing on the market. In light of Fashion Week in New York City this month, Ortiz feels that now is the time to act."
And then this:
"Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz (Brooklyn), will hold a press conference to unveil his legislation (A.9761), which would ban the advertisement of alcoholic beverages during sporting events, during daytime and certain evening hours."

They have plenty of shakers; just not enough movers.
It's about time somebody stood up for New York's slug community.
This story came from Reason, which appears to have gotten it from the Center for Consumer Freedom's Twitter feed--the CCF being another way Richard Berman (a.k.a. Dr. Evil) gets the members of certain business associations to feel good about themselves.
I'm not a lawyer, but it looks like we have a loophole here for restaurants to cook food with salt to be sold by other restaurants. Who writes this shit?

Will this legislation provide for iodide, a necessary nutrient?
