As someone who lives in neighboring MA, I can honestly say that NY politics make no sense except when viewed through a lens wide enough to encompass petty personal politics, i.e., there's a faction that hated Spitzer and brought him down, and then there's a faction that hated Paterson and brought him down, and this faction--which includes but isn't limited to various Cuomos and Bloomberg and Wall Streeters and White Housers--seems to think it's entitled to a Senate seat.
