Discover Your New Disorder Now!

And there's probably something in the book anywayThe fifth edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-often referred to as "the Bible of psychiatry"-is set to be released in 2013, and the American Psychiatric Association has revealed some of the proposed changes. How has your particular brand of crazy-and we've all got at least one-been reclassified? Here's a good summary, although it fails to note the proposal to eliminate "the distinction between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence," which is very important to some of us. Also, the term "mental retardation" is out, which means Rahm Emmanuel is going to need a new epithet. May we suggest "binge eaters"?

Good news. My Narcissistic Personality Disorder has been reclassified as Narcissistic Personality Solution.

I love how much is at stake with the DSM. With nine years passed since the previous edition, it's kind of a big deal.

Now I'm just cribbing from my ladyfriend, who knows way more about this than me, but apparently until now the majority of eating disorder diagnoses were effectively "D) Other Eating Disorder." Good to see they're updating it!

Also, maybe if they didn't have Asperger's, they wouldn't be so inappropriately sensitive to renaming their disorder.

The dog wants me to tell you that his new DSM-V diagnosis is "barking."

and the only prescription is more steak

Asperger's is eliminated, reclassified as part of Autism Spectrum Disorder! Suddenly, a small army of self-diagnosing/self-aggrandizing Slashdot posters falls silent, forced to contemplate the idea that their social failures can't be blamed on the genetic curse of being a super-genius.

Asperger's is not eliminated, but now officially put under the autism umbrella. So it can be considered a high-functing part of autism.

Believe me, it exists. Whooo, boy.

OMFG, just realized we said the same thing but to me it's not eliminated. Going to snow now.
