Finger. Always use your finger. I want to know if it's slimy or smooth, and if it's squishy or firm. And I want to poke its nose, just for fun. But not in a mean way.

I have been inflicting this exact photo of the blobfish on people for years. Years! God, I love him. Especially that little crab claw or whatever it is hanging out of the left side of his mouth.
