New Adventures In Dissembling About Discrimination

"It's very odd to witness a part of the political discourse where one side understands that its actual views are so completely socially unacceptable that they can't be expressed, and must be replaced with nonsense terms."
-Jonathan Chait is referring to the religious right's opposition to the appointment of Amanda Simpson, a transgender woman, to the Department of Commerce, but he really could be talking about any number of things.

Oh I can't wait for the Glenn McCoy cartoon about this ish.

Or Sean Delonas's.

They get the same memo, no doubt.

It's strange that they should complain about any of Obama's appointments, because it's not as though he'd otherwise be appointing Republicans.

TwoDollars (#2,898)

Personally I'm furious about the appointment of Bo. What, is there going to be like a DOG QUOTA in the White House now?!

Rod T (#33)

I have to admit to reading this story this morning and thinking immediately: "A-man-duh". Sigh.

Rod T (#33)

So not proud to be me sometimes.

She is Amanda Hugginkis no more!

Me too. Why pick that name?! If it's tongue-in-cheek, it's a bit on the nose. If it's not, then it's probably even more worrisome.

Anybody else think this appointment is a lip-service so he can put off dealing with DADT and same-marriage for a while longer?

DoctorDisaster (#1,970)

Frankly, no. I think he'd have to be under some actual pressure for this move to be necessary to take the pressure off.

HiredGoons (#603)

touche.

They must have filled their quota of black people by now too. I mean, President must be worth at least 20 other black jobs.

My old thinking was, I'm sorry you feel like a girl inside but cutting off your dick and talking like Michael Jackson doesn't make you one for reals. So go ahead and call yourself the too-precious name you made up when you were twelve and wear the dress and skirt into work I guess (but not the heels — HEELS — you're SIX FEET TALL for chrissakes — real women don't bump their heads ten times a day, have you noticed?) But asking us gays and lesbians and half-in-denial gays and lesbians to tell the straight world that not calling your linebackery box-faced self a woman or some four-foot-two chick with dead back skin hanging between her legs a dude is somehow just as bad as kicking us to death is… well it's asking a lot.

But then I read this:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/from-minnie-to-mickey-and-all-they-did-was-turn-off-a-gene-1838170.html

So before too long that dude-chick and gentlewoman will just be able to get a gene turned off and… how long does it take I wonder? A year? I bet not a great one either. But at the end of it they'll be honest to gosh biological sex they feel like, and good for them! Though oh, how the aging surgical trannies will hate them.

But here's the thing: The new trannies won't even BE trannies, so they should get off our lawn too. LGBT takes a fucking year to say and only half of it is even true. Maybe less than that — all these flipping lesbians are starting to give me pause. When a guy starts sucking dick? Just try to pull him off — you can't.

But with that one asterisk yes, I agree this is an outrage.
