Jay Leno vs. Conan O'Brien: Someone Is Probably Interested

This is him, right?I don't care about Jay Leno. Choire doesn't care about Jay Leno. Cho probably cares about Jay Leno, but neither Choire nor I care what Cho cares about. Do you care about Jay Leno? You may. It's a free country. All sorts of things interest all sorts of people, and thank God we've got a big old Internet on which you can probably find something about which you care. So, if you do in fact care about Jay Leno, here is something you might find interesting. It's actually pretty good even if you don't care about Jay Leno.

I was pretty ambivalent about this post until the last sentence there. Way to bury the lede, Balk!

Props on using a picture from "The Late Shift".

I am embarrassed to have gone to the same college as this douche.

YEAH MEDIA DEGREES!!! WOO!!!

to get all college-y for a second:

NBC is following a false zeitgeist at the moment in thinking that Leno is somehow a safer long-term bet than Conan.

aside from that bit of above nonsense: wake the fuck up NBC, the olds aren't of the future. Kick Leno onto Social Security already.

It's decisions like this that make NBC's descent into the crevasse all the more understandable.

I could opine for HOURS on this particular topic.

So true. But the future is also not broadcast TV time-sensitive late show formats. So NBC is trying to take what it can get while the getting is good because in 5 years when we all watch on-demand (3D?!?!) stuff via the Internet none of this will matter and NBC will have invested in a Conan format that will itself have to change so....

ah such a good point!

also, 3D television will invariably involve 3D advertising. The future is freaking me out...

When it comes to Conan vs. Leno in 3D... I'll definitely take the pompadour bobbing around over the chin in my face.

I would rather watch Jay Leno, almost most of the time, than Dr. Oz, and I don't care who knows it.

I think Jeff Zucker has had it in for Coco ever since he compared him to Boss Hogg years ago on Late Night. If I remember correctly, it was a bit where they were casting the Dukes of Hazzard movie.

Coco! I will refer to him that way from now on.

Conan's sister works at a coffee shop in Somerville and IS SO DEPRESSING.

She also gets PISSED if you ask her about Conan, which of course we always did.

Was it the now-closed and formerly a bit homelessy Someday Cafe? It really fits in the narrative in my mind.

Was that the one in Davis Sq. with the smelly sofas?

Exactly the one! You always knew there would be a place to sit if Diesel was packed with pretty gays. Oh, I think I just answered my previous inquiry ..

If this shuffling results in the Roots leaving NYC, I shall go from apathetic to pissed.

I guess no one cares about Leno, but he would probably tell you he is the biggest thing NBC has going. He will finally find out different.
