Mick Jagger Is 70

Sir Michael Philip Jagger is 70 today, and I bet no one is even particularly surprised. 70 is the new, I dunno, let's say 50. Which would make Mick George Michael's age. What a world.

Charlie Watts at 70

Charles Robert Watts, percussionist for British popular music combo The Rolling Stones, turns 70 today. Here is a fun anecdote about the man from his bandmate Keith Richards, concerning an altercation between Watts and Mick Jagger: "Charlie punched him into a plate full of smoked salmon and he almost floated out the window along the table into a canal in Amsterdam. I just grabbed his leg and saved him from going out… (The fight) was about absolutely nothing. I had taken Mick out for a drink in Amsterdam, so at 5 in the morning, he came back to my room. He's drunk by now, Mick drunk is a sight [...]

David Bowie, "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" (And How It Was Really The Eurythmics Who Created The World We Live In Today… And Everything Else You Could Fit Into A Superfluous Parenthetical)

There is a lot to talk about about the new David Bowie video. The first thing, I guess, is that it was directed by Floria Sigismondi, who made The Runaways movie two years ago and lots of other music videos set in, as she reportedly put it, "entropic underworlds inhabited by tortured souls and omnipotent beings." (Hooray!) It co-stars Tilda Swinton, who plays David Bowie's wife in the most masturbatory coupling we've seen since Mick Jagger married himself in the form of Bianca Peres Moreno de Macias in 1971.

What Do Raekwon, Kobe, Ghostface Killah And Jim Jones Think Of When They Think Of "Rock N' Roll"?

The great Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon releases his next solo album next month. Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang, it's called, the follow-up to 2009's terrific Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. Some of the new music sounds good. The latest song to leak, "Rock n' Roll," which features Rae's frequent collaborator Ghostface Killah, the singer Kobe, and Jim Jones of the Diplomats, sounds less so, to my curmudgeonly autotune-averse ears. But it's interesting to look at which rock n' rollers get namechecked in the lyrics. Not necessarily ones you might expect. For instance, Raekwon's first shout goes out to Willie Nelson.

Maroon 5 Guy And Christina Aguilera Score No. 1 Hit By Cutting Out A Small But Important Part Of Man's Heart And Slowly Devouring It Before His Very Eyes

When I was 14, after we graduated from Markham Place School at a ceremony by the gazebo on the hill by the baseball fields, there was a party for my eighth grade class with pizza and a six-foot-long sub from Danny's and a DJ and stuff. We were euphoric, as kids are at the end of every school year—and even more so this year, it being the end of grade school in its entirety, and us having recently returned from an overnight class trip to Washington D.C. that had seemed to engender good feelings all around. I was a dork in 8th grade, not invited to many of the [...]

Gentleman Persists In Making Uncharitable Remarks About Scale Of Colleague's Endowment

This is too amazing to mar with any kind of comment, so I will just get out of the way: "KEITH RICHARDS has reignited a row with MICK JAGGER – by claiming the singer has a tiny WILLY. The ROLLING STONES pair fell out in 2005 when the guitarist first said Sir Mick had a 'small c**k'. Keith, 66, was forced to publicly apologise. Now he says Sir Mick's ex MARIANNE FAITHFULL 'had no fun with Mick's tiny todger'."
