On I Have Thoughts About Commenting Systems!

I have a secret Hairpin identity that is not this one (kind of like a super hero, oooor a serial killer) and I like having them separate. It wouldn't be disastrous if they merged, but I would HATE having one Disqus name across the Whole Internet, for the slashficky reasons mentioned by another commenter above.

Anyone else pronounce Disqus "discus" rather than "discuss" in their head? *whistles* Ok then.

Oh also no FB obviously.

On Candi Collecting Pallets

For some reason this post makes me feel rathah uncomfortable. Maybe I have my class sensitivities dial jacked way too high but I am detecting a bit of a squicky "LOLpoorpeople" vibe here. I don't know, I just don't find it very funny that in all likelihood "Candi" ("LOL her name was poor-people weird but it sounded vaguely like this!") will never get any closer to affluence than she did in that conversation, while Choire will never get any closer to poverty.

On Inside David Foster Wallace's Private Self-Help Library

Well--duh. I was just wondering if you have any thoughts as to why it's "pulchritude" rather than the no-less-ugly "pulchritudinous." All the others are adjectives!

On Ross Douthat, the Fake Soft-Pedaler of the Culture Wars

Ross's columns are pretty much all him covering up his ears and screaming "IT'S THE STORK IT'S THE STORK IT'S THE STORK!!!!"
