On The Anti-Gay Donations That Target Apologized For? They Never Stopped

"Presumably all the folks up in arms over the whole ordeal were progressives who, in the 2008 presidential election, voted Obama/Biden; neither one of which supported gay marriage while campaigning."

Ahhh....you presume too much. I don't understand why any genuine progressive (let alone a GAY progressive) could vote for Obama/Biden in '08. I know all the usual reasons people give. They continue to accept elections where we have only "two" viable options--Republican or Democrat--which makes a sad charade of "free elections". I always vote for the candidate (and party) that honestly represents my progressive values. I refuse to vote for a "lesser of two evils" candidate. If so many people weren't cowed by the prospect of a victory by the "greater of two evils" (i.e., a Republican), we might have a REAL democracy; and we might finally get "change we can believe in", rather than a warmed-over version of the other 'corporate-owned' candidate.

Until we get off our behinds and turn our efforts to organizing a 3rd Party AND overcoming all the obstacles that the "two" major parties have placed in the way of having a viable 3rd Party, we will continue to be stuck with only two "choices". Reps and Dems rule our electoral machinery as if it were the 'cosa nostra'.

We need to lobby for reform of 'Ballot Access' laws ...'proportional representation' mechanisms...'instant run-off' balloting...'fusion candidacies'...and other such reforms that would encourage "more voices and more choices" in our election campaigns. Obama's only real selling point is that he wasn't as bad as McCain. That much is true; but we can have candidates who are much BETTER than either of these two...IF we do some hard work and assure that the 'deck' is no longer stacked against GENUINE change--change that won't be dictated by the corporate giants who currently OWN and OPERATE "our" government. What we have now is one hell of a bad way to run a democracy!
