On The First Interview: Meet Josh Simpson, the Man Behind Twitter's @BPGlobalPR

I stayed anonymous because I wanted to see how big I could make @BPGlobalPR. My goal was to engage people and to fight BP's spin at BP's expense. Having a secret identity was crucial to that. I felt if I took credit for it @BPGlobalPR would become MY thing rather than A thing. The fact is, people don't particularly want to hear about BP everyday anymore. I'm going to keep the account alive forever, but I'm focusing on a new, more ambitious "thing".

On The First Interview: Meet Josh Simpson, the Man Behind Twitter's @BPGlobalPR

(This was supposed to be the beginning of my last post. I guess it got cut off).

I just want to make a few comments here...

Steve, I wasn't asked about my influences, but if I was The Yes Men would definitely be near the top of the list. Banksy, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Bill Hicks are also heroes of mine and this entire thing would not have happened if it weren't for the UCB Theater. That place is my second home and the people there are my family. I met all of the writers through the UCB.

I'd also like to be a little more clear about my "comedian or activist" response. I am a comedian. It's what I love to do and it's what I'm best at. The question is, what is an activist? Is it someone who gets paid to do something? Someone who makes a living promoting a cause? That's probably not going to be me, but I do care about things and I will speak up about them because it is a civic duty. Howard Zinn said it best- "You can't be neutral on a moving train."

I'd also like to say that I totally nailed that lighting phrase there at the end. That's definitely how that saying goes, so don't question my odd phrasing there or anywhere else. OKAY!?

Lastly, WorldGlobalPR.com is going to be cool (launches October 4th) and we're going to start tweeting at @WorldGlobalPR pretty much immediately. Same writers, more fodder. We're gonna build this thing up and see what happens. I'm very excited about it.
