Great article. I've been calling for telling off MoveOn ever since I saw the video of their petition deliverance.
There is only one point left out of this otherwise brilliantly written article, that is the real reason Target donates to the GOP, and that is the business reason.
The real business interest is that mostly GOP politicians allow Target to sell cheap products made by slave labor in third world countries, American sweatshops, and undocumented migrant workers harvesting pesticide soaked crops while being denied access to health care.
But Americans don't care that Chinese workers are dying from cancer handling the toxic materials used to make the electronics sold at Target. Americans don't care about the children forced to mine metals used to make products sold by Target, or chained to tables without food or water as they put together the cheap crap Target sells.
But if we know that those who are dying to make Americans products are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, we do care about those people. The human rights of everyone else doesn't matter, just as long as Target keeps the prices down.
HRC and MoveOn are not calling for a boycott of Target or BestBuy for selling slave-made products, and I wonder if anyone reading this comment would boycott Target either - after all you want to buy cheap crap too.
Other than that ommission, the article is brilliantly written.
