It isn't quite fair to characterize RF as always singing safely (in that particular use of "safe" that makes us opernvolk sad). Frequently, yeah. But you know...let's not forget stuff like the last scene of the moviecast Onegin, the old Don G where she rips into "Or sai", the Met Gala Tote Stadt aria--Gencer it ain't, but it's emotionally all there. The Rusalka a few seasons back was not untouched by dementia.
I can't get too het up either way about the pop album. It's not songs I love, though I'm a little curious to hear "Mad World", so I haven't quite mustered the interest to buy it. I just wish talk of Fleming weren't so often in absolute terms.
