i am from long island-- basically where camp goes to winter-- and i tried the sleepaway thing for 5 years. all different camps. every single year i would call my parents crying, begging to come home. my father literally blockaded the door so my mom couldn't get me. it was tough times indeed. something i don't often tell people: i went on a shower strike at one camp to try and get kicked out. (also, i was afraid of getting burned by the hot water.) i am now an obsessive shower-er. go figure. and no, i didn't get kicked out. apparently being the dirty kid doesn't get you a free pass home.
