On Here Is What Needs To Happen For Gay Marriage To Pass

But we would! Or, we would have brought $200 million to Jersey over the next three years, were they not haters. Love me some Williams Institute research: http://gayrights.change.org/blog/view/new_jersey_could_make_200_million_by_passing_gay_marriage

On Showed Up: 'Elektra' at the Metropolitan Opera

I'm still holding out lone hope that this GLEE/Nine/Whatever-love-of-music-in-mainstream time in culture could lead, eventually, to mainstream Opera film musical productions that are somehow also well done. As a continuation of the 'Times Sq/Lincoln Center/Dolores Park large screen showings of opera' theme around accessibility.

For example, I loved this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGNmxQJd3AI - as the South African take on popularizing Carmen. (Also. Just Xhosa in arias!)

Maybe? Maybe?!

On Dear Michael Schudson, You Are Delusional

There are some sorts of WPA happy ideas being pushed regarding the early '10 Jobs bill. WPA, as the prior great public funding stream for, among other things, some really great out of work writers, as well some not so really great writers. (And muralists, and infrastructure builders, etc.) Also, for what it's worth, I anxiously await funding options to keep The Awl smoking.

On Look Out! Joan Didion at Your 10 O'Clock!

Yes, although the mob of Model UN kids who drove Didion from her coffee that day did add an additional flair.

On The Art Of Carla Bruni

not to take the fun out of this. but, doesn't the article you link to point out that bruni is not in fact the artist herself, but rather hired a collection of artists to create the drawings? (maybe i'm somehow misreading that?) regardless, the world is a better place when choire is on the op-ed page and we can believe bruni draws strange portraits.

On The Lessons Of Peggy Noonan

Pls, The Awl, write a dramatic screenplay of the late night drinks session inevitably to be had (scene: some dark wood cambridge bar) btwn Noonan and her fellow IOP fellows, Kim Gandy and Stephanie Cutter. Or, some Harvarder, just let us know how that all works out!

On Every Last One of John Edwards' Choices Is Bad

i hate that i somehow know that dave matthews was used as part of the soundtrack for that ladylover's "videos" for edwards' campaign. song: 'true reflections.' lyrics include the wonderfully prophetic:

"I thought by now you'd be the president
But after all that was yesterday
But you've had time to go out in the world now
But you chose to run away
Well, people ask you what you're doing now
You don't even know what to say"

Zing! Wedding song in the making.

On Chick-chick-chick

Is this the appropriate moment to posit that the spirit of Frank O'Hara has clearly found his way back to the East Village via Choire, and his shared skill for exclamation points? I think so.
