On Remember That Time Everyone Threw Up on the Internet?

It really was bad, though.

On Robots Are Eating Your Jobs

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "repair and maintenance, personal and laundry services, religious, grant-making, civic, professional and other organizations" kind of a lot of things?

On Being a Hipster Is an Excellent and Wonderful Thing!

Makes sense to me. I was just talking to a friend the other day about how when we pick out a shirt we go, "That's a cute shirt," and when we pick out a pair of jeans we go, "That's a nice pair of jeans," and when we go to a shoe store or an eyeglass shop, we're drawn to the boots or the big glasses, and when we're looking for something to do on a Saturday night, we go to a bar we like in Brooklyn. And then we get there, and we instantly feel like assholes, because we're wearing the same shirts and jeans and boots and glasses as everyone else -- but we didn't do it on purpose! We just happened to like all those things! And like a place where there are a lot of other people who happened to like all those things!

On This Is Why You're Crying Blood

Yeah. Ever since I discovered that shit in my parents' medical dictionary when I was a kid, getting my period through my nose has been one of my greatest fears.

On This Is Why You're Crying Blood

There is a condition called "vicarious menstruation," in which mucous membranes at sites other than the uterus bleed during menstruation. Although it usually takes the form of a nosebleed, it's been suggested as a cause of bloody tears, and IIRC it's because capillaries are more permeable during menstruation. I guess it's possible that this permeability could cause lower, less noticeable concentrations of blood in tears during menstruation as well?

On Five Years in New York: To the Class of 2010 from the Class of 2005

Hell, you don't even have to be fiscally irresponsible. I'm also an '05-er, and I've spent the past two years living in Manhattan because the apartments here were not only nicer but cheaper than the places I was looking at in the outer boroughs.

It's called living above 125th Street, kids, look into it. (Or better yet, don't. I don't want you here.)

On The War for New York City Is Lost, Declares General

Having spent the past two years living on the border between northern (gentrified) and southern (not gentrified) Washington Heights, more and more often I find myself praying the north will win, if only because I'm tired of having to walk 5 blocks to find a grocery store where the canned goods aren't covered in a thick layer of dust, or a laundromat where the dryer doors aren't held on with twine.
