On In Fabrication Uproars, At Least Everyone Agrees David Sedaris Is a Liar
I neither like David Sedaris much, nor understand what could possibly lead someone to care about personal writing being "factual."

On A Book That Seeks to Educate Women About Losers
By the time I got to the end of the title, I needed the inevitable "How to painlessly kill yourself" sequel.

On See? You Do So Put the Yogurt "Up There"
This works! And is arguably no grosser than the usual cures.

On Married People: Just Shun Them
It looks like they combined the amount spent by a single man and a single woman to get at a number comparable to what married couples spend, since the paragraph goes on: "If they got married and combined their incomes, our data shows that they would have spent $4,079 within the same time period."
Which still means that people earning 2.5-3K a month are spending 2.6K not including rent, so either their rents average $400/mo, or credit cards/mom and dad/student loans/inheritance are fucking the numbers.

On Knock It Off With All The "Pairing," Okay?
When I worked at the Union Square farmer's market, I was instructed to write "pairs well with guava paste" next to the name of one of the cheeses every day.

On The Oscar Grant Verdict and Aftermath
It's pretty fucked that the maximum sentence for shooting an unarmed, bound guy in the back is 4 years in a state where people are serving life sentences for shoplifting and possession.

On Sleep Is For The Weak (Or At Least The Women Who Don't Have PDAs)
My non-PDA cellphone is my alarm clock, so I generally wake up clutching it a half hour after the alarm initially went off, roused finally by the sound of my cat yelling for breakfast.

On Doctors Really Not Testing Drug On Pregnant Women So As To Prevent Lesbianism
@DoctorDisaster
I agree- if anything, doesn't this doctor's offensive justification of her homophobia and misogyny through science point out the very problem with assuming a scientist or medical expert's opinion at the Awl would prevent confusion and disagreement in the comments? Being "a Scientist" doesn't provide some impenetrable objectivity or clarity.

On In Fabrication Uproars, At Least Everyone Agrees David Sedaris Is a Liar
@Danzig! Could it possibly be because "memoir" is a more profitable genre than "autobiographical fiction"? I imagine that those who care about "honesty" in writing have created this issue by demonstrating willingness to pay for it.
