On Alabama Now Best Known For Slightly Different Thing

My years spent growing up were split between Mobile, AL and various naval bases in California. The contrast between the two states was soul-crushingly stark. And yeah, given that the only two races populous in the state are de facto segregated, this hot new trend of xenophobia already feels like stale news.

On Is the Wisconsin Budget Like Obama's Health Care Reform? Well, Kinda!

I came down here to sing Abe's praises, and found that I'll be joining a chorus. Fuck me, this is some good reporting.

On Christian Aid Worker Danny Pye Freed from Haitian Prison

In a sea of wrong, even this drop of right is appreciated.

On Your Suffering Will Be Bathed In Light

Ditto. That was some pretty fucking impressive words there. Impressively fucking pretty, even. (I am also not an English major.)

On Mexico Keeping The Lights On In Texas

I tell you what, it's these Mexican electrons willing to work for substandard wages that are taking good jobs from decent, American electrons. Nevermind that everyone here in Houston turned their thermostat up to 80 degrees the moment the weather went below freezing.

On "The Black People, as a Class, Have No Thought For the Future" --1874, the 'Times'

Having grown up in Mobile, AL myself, I can attest that this is EXACTLY, and I mean E-X-A-C-T-L-Y how the majority of whites in the deep south, even today, see blacks. To most, our President is the exception that proves the rule.

On 'The Social Network' Is a Pack of Lies That Conveys Nothing About Our Time

So we're saying that one of the most watched movies of the past year, about the most well-known website in history, was going to create some misconceptions about the events it was based on in light of the creator's failure to point out that it isn't a true-to-life retelling?
Did I enjoy watching it: YES
Do I know it isn't factual: YES
Do I give a shit if someone else doesn't get either of the above: NOT REALLY, BUT I DID WRITE THIS POST, SO GO FIGURE.

On Cat Old

"Uh, sure, why the hell not?"

I always read this as implied in most reporting. Glad to see it stated.

On The Road To Hell Is Paved With Compostable Bags

I, too, weep for our misguided people. I loved those damn bags. I'd crinkle the shit out of them, deafening everyone around me as I munched my chips in satisfaction that I had at least one less thing to feel guilty about. Such a loss.

On Are You A "Look" Person Or A "So" Person?
