I would like to point out that cats have extra scent glands in the roofs of their mouths. Many types of cats are often seen opening their mouths wide in order to capture an intriguing scent. Cats that are suffering from massive amounts of pain meow and show other signs. This cat was obviously tracking something and using it's oral scent glands to capture the smell of that object. no case for worry!
