On Who'll Get Punched on 'Jersey Shore' Tonight?

This is a fantastic little piece.

We've really progressed now that violence and assault are no longer wrong in themselves, but wrong because of the 'optics' and the 'message they send'.

On When Bad People Make Art About Christ: At Least Mel Gibson Hasn't Stabbed Anyone! Yet!

My martyr complex?

Hitchens and Rich are the ones who brought it up recently, so I linked. Rich describes it as if it were a weapon "set to detonate" in a cultural tinderbox of hatred, Bush-led fear etc. It is amazing that he maintains to this day that it is equivalent to incitement.

But the bulk of this little piece isn't to condemn Hitch or Rich at length, it is to assert that bad personal lives shouldn't drive us away from good (and even mediocre) art, and to note that some of the most powerful artists were total scumbags.

On I'm Going Back To Arizona (And You Should Probably Come Too)

On the one hand, I think this is great.

But how is this guy going to be your friend after you've called attention to how much better and luckier you are than he is and so publicly called him a bigot? He's going to accept your assertions above his experience?

As I said, part of me wants to applaud, the other wants to say: "Good luck Christianizing the savages, you pompous asshole"
