how is it Vampire Weekend's fault that you associated their music with some kind of false sense of security you had in or around 2007? To me, their music has always existed in some kind of alternate reality (particularly because I can only dream of living in New York, but notwithstanding...) somewhere in between Brooklyn and Cape Town. It's escapism to me, and every now and then (especially nowadays) there's nothing wrong with that.
