On 10 Seconds of (Actually Possibly Not Funny) Grammys Coverage Ever

Wait, he's saying it's tasteless to call video of a woman possibly having a serious medical emergency "hilarious" and *he's* the tone deaf one?

On In Praise of Five Cigarettes a Day

I agree absolutely that smoking is sublime, and I disagree with almost all smoking prohibitions, but this argument just ignores that drinking in moderation is actually good for general health, while smoking even one cigarette is exponentially worse than smoking none (plus affects people in close proximity). That doesn't mean we can't take a libertarian approach to smoking, but I think it's why the powers that be don't "accord...the same respect."

On "Mansplaining" Critique Really Upsets Men, Who Are Usually Too Busy Feigning Concern For the Subjects of Women's Memoirs

Does Julie Klausner know it's not mandatory to write books about your personal life and put your name on them?

But men are the worst, I agree with that part.

On "The Basic Problem Here Is That You Are Wrong": The Collected Letters of Tom Scocca and Keith Gessen

KG's point is generally "I am infallible," and specifically "I say MG is brilliant and original, so he is brilliant and original." Feel free to argue whatever you want, but not those axioms.

As to MG's originality: sociologists have been making a way more sophisticated version of this argument for several years now. They basically say that gay marriage reinforces heteronormativity by trying to emulate it. But why would you need to read the literature on anything when you're the first guy to think of everything worth saying?

On Joseph Heller and Bill Moyers, 20 years ago

Oh, ok. I wasn't trying to be snarky, just negative. I've never found her to be insightful and often found her to be pretty annoying and into herself. Just saying! Although if we're quibbling, I know a lot of people who have dispensed or never 'pensed with her at all and they seem to be doing ok.

I assume "indispensable" here is one of those ambiguous modifiers that sounds like a positive and is employed out of politeness. Nice work.
